Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have delivered a seismic blow to the West’s narrative of justice. These Sahel nations have officially withdrawn from the International Criminal Court, calling it nothing more than a neo-colonial weapon dressed up as law. For decades, the ICC targeted African leaders while turning a blind eye to Western crimes. This bold move exposes the hypocrisy of global justice and signals Africa’s refusal to be shackled any longer. The question now is—will more nations follow their lead? As the African Diaspora saying goes, "I am because we are, and we are because I am."

In this new online series, women musicians perform original work via live-stream on the museum’s social media channels on the first Friday of the month. Each session includes a short interview, conducted over a cup of tea, which explores the artist’s creative process. The Tea proudly welcomes Washington, D.C.-based band Black Alley this month, and will be sharing this event on NMWA’s YouTube page and at nmwa.org/livestream.

Black Alley has been pushing the art of music to its rhythmic limits. Determined to create a unique musical elixir, Black Alley has taken the finest ingredients of rock, hip-hop and go-go to create their own genre-bending sound called “hood rock.” The band is one, each musician surrendering to the union of sounds, each delivering music from their soul, while in dialogue with one another through their instruments. Each member of this collective is essential to the workability and funkability of the unit.

A unanimous 9–0 Supreme Court decision just changed how police use of force is judged during traffic stops — and if you legally carry a firearm, this ruling could be the difference between justice and a cover-up.

In Barnes v. Felix (2025), the Supreme Court rejected the dangerous “moment of threat” rule used by several federal circuits. Courts can no longer ignore what police officers did leading up to a shooting. Instead, judges must evaluate the totality of the circumstances, as required by the Fourth Amendment.

This decision directly impacts:
• Police shootings
• Traffic stops
• Concealed carry encounters
• Civil rights lawsuits
• Gun owners nationwide

We break down:
▶ What the “moment of threat” rule was
▶ Why the Supreme Court rejected it unanimously
▶ How this changes Fourth Amendment rights
▶ What it means if you’re carrying during a traffic stop
▶ Why officer-created danger now matters in court

Lyrics:
I could be the twist
The one to make you stop
The icing on your cake
The cherry on the top
It’s heaven in my heart
And we could find you some space
I could be the world to you
The missing piece
That extra sentimental kind of chemistry
Some people make it hard
With me that isn’t the case
Cos I make it so easy to fall in love
So come give me a call
and we’ll fall into us
I’m the perfect mix of Saturday night
And the rest of your life
Anyone with a heart would agree
It’s so easy
To fall in love with
The way I do my hair
The way you make me laugh
The way we love to share
A walk in Central Park
I could be fresh air
Might be the girl of your dreams
There’s no need to hide
If you’re into me cos I’m into you
Quite intimately
And maybe one night could turn into three
Well I’m down to see
Cos I make it so easy to fall in love
So come give me a call
And we’ll fall into us
I’m the perfect mix of Saturday night
And the rest of your life
Anyone with a heart would agree
It’s so easy to fall in love with me

Dec. 9, 2019 | Sidney Madden -- From the moment Raveena Aurora stepped into NPR's Music Department and looked at the Tiny Desk for the first time, she was ready. The Queens, N.Y. singer-songwriter and her team showed up early (which rarely happens) to meticulously arrange her stage props of homemade mushrooms and flowers, in the already endearingly cluttered space. These extra touches were meant to make clear that this performance would be all about community and safe spaces.

"A lot of my music talks about growing out of these really traumatic experiences," Raveena told the audience once the cameras started rolling. "And if you've ever gone through something similar that I talk about in my music, I just want you to know that in this space that we're in, you're extremely, extremely loved."

As Raveena pulled her audience in with the 2018 fan-favorite single "Honey," and dreamy standouts from her 2019 debut album, Lucid, a hush fell over the office. Though sweet and soft-spoken, she exudes the confidence and clarity of a seasoned vet. Beyond an astounding vocal ability — the rising star cultivated her range by growing up on Minnie Riperton, Sade and Asha Puthli, India's '70s disco queen — it's Raveena's precision and charisma that shines brightest within the close quarters of the desk. From a coordinated band rocking a melted creamsicle palette to surrounding themselves with Raveena's homemade decor, it's the genuine attention to detail that makes this performance so mesmerizing.

Trump held his most recent rally at Madison Square Garden in the deeply blue Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The rally was unhinged and racist, mirroring the previous Nazi rally held at Madison Square Garden in 1939.
